Odayla the Hunter

Harmony Death Air

Mythos and History

In the Great Darkness Odayla was one of the Thunder Brothers, sons of Orlanth.

When Ernalda fled to the Underworld to hide from chaos and Orlanth set off on his great quest Odayla stayed behind under the command of Elmal. Without Ernalda's bounty food grew scarce. Odayla asked Yinkin, who alone remained well fed, where food might be found. Yinkin then showed him how to hunt rats, but these would not be enough to feed all the starving people.

Odayla set out with Yinkin, armed with bow and javelin, to seek larger prey. With Yinkin's aid he brought back boar deer, rabbit and other game. Ty Kora Tek then showed him the secret of sending the animals back to be reborn and hunted again. He himself learnt how to make the best use of all the prey, so that no more than was needed were killed.

One day Odayla was hunting in the woods when he heard a great roaring. At first he thought Urox had returned, and so sneaked up in case Urox took out his anger on Odayla. When he got closer he saw that it was not Urox, but Urain whom Wakboth had bred to counter the Storm Bull's rage. Urain smelt Odayla and ran towards him, to drink his brains, but Odayla had twice hunted Eurmal, as a fox and a weasel, and Urain could not find him.

As Urain dashed around trying to kill Odayla, Odayla tricked him as he had been tricked Eurmal and shot arrows at him from places Urain could not see. Urain's anger got greater and greater and his bellow's louder and louder until Elmal came with the warriors to see what was happening and drove him off.

When Orlanth returned Elmal recounted the deeds of all his Ring, including Odayla. Orlanth appointed Odayla his huntsman and scout in recognition of his deeds.

Odayla is associated with the runes of Harmony and Death. He is also associated with the Air rune.

The Cult in the World

The cult of Odayla is the Orlanthi hunters cult, supporting all types of hunters. It is most common in the less populted orlanthi regions, less so in farmland and virtually unknown in urban areas. It is very rare in Prax and around Pavis, overshadowed by Foundchild.

The importance of the cult locally is determined by how much of the diet is provided by hunting.

High holy day is Winds Day, Harmony Week, Storm Season.

Shrines teach Sureshot.

Special Cult Skills

Train Alynx (Hard Knowledge 10)
This skill is used to train the Orlanthi hunting alynxes.
Each use of this skill may increase one of the alynx's hunting skills (smell, track, scan, combat etc) as a normal training session, or train the alynx to obey one simple order (this takes 100 hours to train).
Other aspects of this skill, such as training more complex orders, are at the GM's discresion.

Special Divine Magic

Confuse Prey 1 point
ranged, temporal, nonstackable, reusable
For the duration of this spell the target has great difficulty perceiving the caster. If perception would normally be automatic then the target must succeed a perception skill (scan, smell, listen etc). If the target would normally need to use a skill, the chance is halved after all other modifications (e.g. after -30% for a sucessful hide).
e.g. A hunter casts Confuse Prey on a bear from cover. He made his hide by 20%. The bear looks round for the source of the spell. It's scan is normally 45%. It is penalised by 20%, then halved to 13% which it fails. The hunter steps out of cover to get a better shot. Normally the bear can see him, but the spell requires it to make a scan roll at 45%. It does and the hunter regrets his overconfidence.

Subcults

Spirit of reprisal

Follows On, INT 13 POW 40.

This spirit is undetectable, except to Soul Sight. It follows apostates and warns any prey they attempt to hunt, human or animal. It is said to follow it's victims to the feet of Daka Fal himself and can only be dismissed by rejoining Odayla.

It cannot be bound, but may be driven away by spirits by upto 24 hours (until MPs have regenerated).
